Bristol City Council is dedicated to safeguarding and improving the lives of children and families across a vibrant, diverse urban community. As a Children’s Senior Social Worker, you will play a pivotal role in managing complex cases, supporting vulnerable children, and mentoring junior colleagues. This role requires a strong commitment to inclusive, child-focused practice and collaborative working within a fast-paced, multi-agency environment.

  • Lead complex child protection cases, including those requiring legal proceedings, ensuring that children’s safety and wellbeing remain the central focus.

  • Support and mentor less experienced social workers, providing supervision, guidance, and promoting reflective practice.

  • Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act 1989 (e.g., Section 17 and Section 47), delivering clear and evidence-based analysis.

  • Work closely with partner agencies, including schools, health services, and the police, to deliver coordinated safeguarding and support strategies.

  • Develop and implement outcome-focused care and support plans, tailored to the individual needs of children and families.

  • Contribute to continuous service improvement, sharing professional expertise, participating in audits, and supporting best practice initiatives within the team.
