About the Role
The London Borough of Haringey is seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Team Manager / Practice Manager to join our Children’s Social Care service on a 3-month interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and skilled practitioner to take on a leadership role within a progressive, high-performing local authority committed to improving outcomes for children, young people, and families.
As an Assistant Team Manager, you will provide professional leadership, support, and supervision to a team of social workers, ensuring high standards of practice and performance. You will help shape and drive service improvement, supporting staff to deliver child-centred, relationship-based practice that promotes safety, resilience, and long-term positive outcomes.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day management, supervision, and professional guidance to a team of social workers and practitioners.
- Support staff in delivering high-quality assessments, interventions, and care planning in line with statutory and local requirements.
- Promote a culture of reflection, learning, and continuous professional development across the team.
- Ensure that all work is underpinned by a child-centred, strengths-based approach focused on achieving the best outcomes for children and families.
- Monitor and evaluate team performance, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and key performance indicators.
- Support the Team Manager in service planning, audits, and quality assurance processes.
- Contribute to case discussions, complex decision-making, and safeguarding planning to ensure robust risk management and proportionate intervention.
- Foster effective partnerships with other professionals, agencies, and community networks to support holistic and coordinated service delivery.
- Act as a role model for excellent social work practice and professional conduct.
Requirements
- Essential qualification: Degree in Social Work (DipSW, CQSW, CSS, or equivalent).
- Registration: Registered with Social Work England.
- Substantial post-qualifying experience in children’s social care, including supervisory or management experience.
- Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice frameworks.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
- Proven ability to manage workload, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to restorative, relationship-based, and trauma-informed social work practice.
