Assistant Team Manager – Children with Disabilities Team (London Borough of Havering)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Assistant Team Manager (Qualified Social Worker – QSW)** to join the **London Borough of Havering Children with Disabilities Team**. This leadership role focuses on supervising and supporting social workers, overseeing complex casework, and ensuring that children and young people with disabilities receive high-quality, child-centred support.
As an Assistant Team Manager, you will provide professional guidance, manage performance, and contribute to service development, while working collaboratively with families and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and supervision to social workers in the Children with Disabilities Team.
Oversee complex safeguarding and child protection cases involving children with disabilities.
Support staff through reflective supervision, mentoring, and professional development.
Ensure statutory assessments and care planning are completed in line with legislation, policy, and best practice.
Monitor team performance and contribute to audits and quality assurance processes.
Work in partnership with schools, health services, and voluntary organisations to deliver integrated support.
Promote positive outcomes for children and young people with disabilities by encouraging independence, inclusion, and wellbeing.
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant case recording in line with statutory requirements and Havering Council policies.
Contribute to service development, policy implementation, and strategic planning within Children’s Services.
About You
You are a confident and motivated social worker with significant post-qualification experience, ideally within children with disabilities or safeguarding services. You are skilled at supervising staff, managing complex cases, and ensuring children’s needs are placed at the centre of practice.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Substantial post-qualification experience in Children’s Services, preferably within a Children with Disabilities team.
Experience of supervising or mentoring staff.
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, safeguarding frameworks, and disability-related practice.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and partner agencies.
