Advanced Practitioner – Children’s Services (Barnet Council)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Advanced Practitioner (Qualified Social Worker – QSW)** to join the **Barnet Council Children’s Services team**. This role is focused on leading complex safeguarding work, supporting children and families, and providing professional guidance and mentoring to colleagues to ensure the highest standards of social work practice.
As an Advanced Practitioner, you will manage high-risk and challenging cases, act as a practice lead within the team, and contribute to continuous service development while ensuring children’s voices remain central to decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act to identify risks, strengths, and needs.
Develop, implement, and review child-centred care and protection plans.
Provide professional guidance, mentoring, and coaching to less experienced social workers.
Prepare and present high-quality, evidence-based reports for child protection conferences, statutory reviews, and court proceedings.
Work directly with children, young people, and families to build positive and trusting relationships.
Collaborate with schools, health professionals, police, and voluntary organisations to deliver effective multi-agency support.
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant case recording in line with legislation and Barnet Council policies.
Contribute to audits, quality assurance, and continuous service development.
About You
You are a confident and resilient social worker with significant post-qualification experience in children’s services. You are skilled in managing complex safeguarding cases, mentoring colleagues, and leading by example to deliver safe and effective practice.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Extensive post-qualification experience within Children’s Services.
Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
Experience in mentoring, coaching, or supporting colleagues.
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice.
Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
