Advanced Social Worker – Children’s Services (Barnet Council)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Advanced Social Worker (Qualified Social Worker)** to join **Barnet Council’s Children’s Services team**. This senior practice role combines complex case management with professional leadership, ensuring children and families receive safe, effective, and child-centred support.
As an Advanced Social Worker, you will handle high-risk cases, mentor and support colleagues, and contribute to service development and continuous improvement across Children’s Services.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on complex safeguarding and child protection cases in line with statutory requirements.
Provide professional guidance, mentoring, and reflective supervision to social workers and support staff.
Undertake comprehensive assessments of children and families to inform planning and decision-making.
Develop, implement, and review child-centred care and protection plans.
Prepare and present clear, evidence-based reports for child protection conferences, reviews, and court proceedings.
Work directly with children, families, and carers to promote positive and sustainable outcomes.
Chair and actively contribute to multi-agency meetings, ensuring joined-up working across services.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential case records in line with legislation and council policy.
Support service audits, quality assurance processes, and the embedding of best practice.
About You
You are a confident and resilient social worker with substantial post-qualification experience in children’s services. You are skilled at managing complex safeguarding cases while supporting colleagues to deliver excellent practice and outcomes.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Extensive post-qualification experience within Children’s Services, including safeguarding and child protection.
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice.
Proven experience of mentoring, supervising, or supporting colleagues in practice.
Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
Ability to balance advanced practice responsibilities with a demanding caseload.
