Special Educational Needs Occupational Therapist
Brief Job Overview
Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Special Educational Needs Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Hammersmith and Fulham Council. Working within West London Social Services, you will provide specialist Occupational Therapy to children and young people aged 4–25 years with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
The role involves delivering statutory Occupational Therapy provision specified within Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), working across mainstream schools, colleges, and resource bases. You will work closely with SENCOs, teachers, families, and wider multi-agency professionals to ensure children and young people receive appropriate support and achieve agreed outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a high-quality Occupational Therapy service to children and young people aged 4–25 with SEND.
- Deliver statutory Occupational Therapy provision specified within Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Ensure interventions are informed by agreed outcomes and monitor progress against those outcomes.
- Act as the named Lead Occupational Therapist for allocated mainstream schools, colleges, and resource bases.
- Liaise with SENCOs and class teachers to plan visits and ensure the needs of individual children and young people are appropriately addressed.
- Work across education settings to ensure consistent and effective Occupational Therapy provision.
- Work as an active member of the SEN Occupational Therapy team.
- Ensure practice complies with Royal College of Occupational Therapists guidance and departmental policies and processes.
- Liaise with members of the wider multi-agency team and undertake joint interventions where appropriate.
- Maintain appropriate clinical records and documentation relating to assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Participate in continual professional development identified through managerial and clinical supervision and appraisal.
About You
You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with relevant experience working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. You will be confident working across education settings and delivering statutory Occupational Therapy provision linked to EHCP outcomes.
You will have strong communication and partnership-working skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with SENCOs, teachers, children, young people, families, and wider professionals.
Requirements
- Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Experience working with children and young people with SEND.
- Experience delivering Occupational Therapy interventions within education settings is desirable.
- Understanding of EHCPs and statutory Occupational Therapy provision.
- Ability to monitor and evidence progress against agreed outcomes.
- Strong communication and multi-agency working skills.
- Ability to work effectively with SENCOs, teachers, families, and wider professionals.
- Commitment to evidence-based and outcome-focused Occupational Therapy practice.
- Willingness to participate in clinical and managerial supervision and continuing professional development.
