Occupational Therapy Assistant
Brief Job Overview
Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced and motivated Occupational Therapy Assistant for a locum opportunity with Walsall Council. Working within the West Midlands Social Services Prevention and Early Intervention Service, you will support adults aged 18+ with physical disabilities to maximise their independence, reduce risk, and improve their quality of life through person-centred, strengths-based interventions.
This hybrid role combines community visits, clinic-based assessments, and office working, offering an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive multidisciplinary team while managing an autonomous caseload. You will play a vital role in preventing hospital admissions, reducing reliance on long-term care, and helping people remain safe and independent within their own homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake high-quality Occupational Therapy assessments using a person-centred, strengths-based approach.
- Support adults with physical disabilities to maximise independence and participation in everyday activities.
- Manage and prioritise a varied community caseload while working independently with access to professional supervision.
- Use clinical knowledge of physical health conditions to inform assessments and appropriate interventions.
- Assess for, arrange, and review minor equipment, minor adaptations, and major adaptations, including Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) recommendations.
- Contribute to rehousing reports and provide effective signposting to community services and support organisations.
- Identify and manage risks, including falls prevention, to reduce hospital admissions and prevent functional decline.
- Work collaboratively with service users, carers, Occupational Therapists, health professionals, and wider multidisciplinary teams.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive electronic case records and documentation.
- Apply the principles of the Care Act and safeguarding legislation throughout all areas of practice.
- Contribute positively to team development and support continuous service improvement.
About You
You will be an experienced Occupational Therapy Assistant with a background in Adult Health and Social Care, ideally within a community Occupational Therapy service. You will be confident working independently, managing competing priorities, and delivering person-centred interventions that promote independence and wellbeing.
You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively with individuals, carers, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
Requirements
- Experience working within Adult Health and Social Care.
- Previous community Occupational Therapy or Adult Social Care experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of person-centred and strengths-based practice.
- Experience supporting equipment provision, adaptations, and Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) processes.
- Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and the Care Act.
- Strong organisational, communication, and case management skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
- An enhanced DBS check may be required.
