Occupational Therapist (Locum)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Adults Early Intervention Team at Barnet Council, within the North London Social Services area. This locum role is part of a multidisciplinary team that includes social workers, assessment and enablement officers, and occupational therapists. The team supports adults who are newly discharged from hospital or referred through the front-door or MASH pathways. This is a hybrid post, with one office-based team day per week and the remainder split between community visits and home working.

Key Responsibilities

  •
    • Deliver high-quality Occupational Therapy assessments to adults with physical, sensory, or learning disabilities, ensuring practice aligns with legislation, local policy, and professional standards.

    • Conduct enablement reviews for individuals recently discharged from hospital or referred through early intervention pathways.

    • Provide personalised, outcomes-focused care and support planning that reflects the principles of the Adult Social Care Outcomes Framework.

    • Safeguard adults and carers at risk of harm, following Making Safeguarding Personal principles.

    • Support people to maintain their independence by offering advice, information, and signposting to preventative services that promote resilience and wellbeing.

    • Identify and recommend equipment or adaptations, and develop intervention plans that support individuals to achieve the outcomes important to them.

    • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to support coordinated care and seamless service delivery.

    • Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to a culture that promotes high-quality practice and staff wellbeing.

    About You

You are a skilled and person-centred Occupational Therapist with experience working in adult social care or early intervention services. You have strong assessment and problem-solving skills, and you’re confident working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Your commitment to strengths-based practice, safeguarding, and promoting wellbeing will help you deliver meaningful outcomes for adults across Barnet.

    Requirements

      • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy with registration through the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

      • Experience in adult social care, early intervention, or community occupational therapy services.

      • Strong understanding of the Care Act 2014 and the wellbeing principles underpinning assessment and support planning.

      • Experience conducting enablement reviews and working alongside multidisciplinary colleagues.

      • Excellent communication, organisational, and documentation skills.

      • Ability to work autonomously in a hybrid model (home working, office attendance, and community visits).

      Contract & Salary

      • Job Type: Locum

      • Contract Length: Ongoing
