Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Uxbridge Civic Centre within the West London NHS. This locum position is for an initial six-week period and involves providing a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service to adults within Learning Disability Services. You will work autonomously, delivering expert assessment and intervention while contributing to the continued development of the SLT service.
Key Responsibilities

- Independently manage and prioritise a specialist caseload of adults with communication and swallowing disorders within Learning Disability Services.
- Provide highly specialist assessment, intervention, and clinical recommendations using a person-centred and evidence-based approach.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, contributing to holistic care planning and shared decision-making.
- Support the ongoing development and improvement of the Speech and Language Therapy service within the Learning Disability pathway.
- Supervise and support other Speech and Language Therapists within the team as required.
- Deliver training and teaching sessions for carers, support workers, health professionals, and students both within the Trust and externally.
- Demonstrate the impact and effectiveness of the SLT service through appropriate liaison, audit, and outcome measurement.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation in line with HCPC and Trust standards.
About You
You are a confident and skilled Speech and Language Therapist with specialist experience in Learning Disability Services. You bring strong clinical reasoning, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively. You will be comfortable managing a complex caseload, contributing to service development, and supporting other SLTs within the team. A proactive, person-centred approach will be essential for achieving positive outcomes for service users.
Requirements

- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Extensive post-qualification experience, including work within Learning Disability Services.
- Highly specialist knowledge of communication and swallowing disorders in adults with learning disabilities.
- Experience supervising junior SLTs or support staff.
- Strong assessment, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to deliver training to multidisciplinary colleagues, carers, and students.
- Effective multidisciplinary working and commitment to person-centred care.
