Brent Council is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join its Minor Aids & Adaptations Team. This is an opportunity for a skilled Occupational Therapist to provide person-centred assessments and interventions that support residents and carers to maximise independence, safety and wellbeing.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, as the team aims to turn around assessments and cases within as little as 15 working days. You will work with residents and carers to identify needs, make appropriate recommendations and use Occupational Therapy expertise to support timely and effective outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote strength-based practice and positive change through the use of Occupational Therapy methods, models and tools.
- Carry out needs-led assessments for residents and their carers within the guidelines of the Care Act.
- Provide Occupational Therapy services to physically disabled people and those with complex and multiple disabilities, including people with mental health conditions.
- Work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team to support positive outcomes.
- Make professional judgements within relevant legal and policy frameworks.
- Assess individual Occupational Therapy needs and plan how those needs can be met using the full range of available resources.
- Develop appropriate interventions that support people to be as independent as possible.
- Work to prevent or delay the development of care and support needs and reduce existing needs where appropriate.
- Promote the use of specialist Occupational Therapy knowledge to provide cost-effective assessment, intervention and support for longer-term care needs.
- Consider the needs of carers and assess and, where eligible, address their identified needs.
- Manage assessments and cases efficiently within the team’s fast-paced working environment and expected turnaround times.
About You
We are looking for a confident and experienced Occupational Therapist who can work effectively in a busy, fast-paced social care environment. You will have strong assessment and professional decision-making skills and be able to manage cases efficiently while maintaining a high standard of person-centred practice.
You will be committed to strength-based working and promoting independence, with the ability to assess the needs of both residents and carers. Experience working with physical disabilities, complex and multiple disabilities and/or mental health conditions will be valuable within this role.
Requirements
- Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Relevant Occupational Therapy experience within adult social care, community or a similar setting.
- Experience undertaking needs-led assessments within a social care environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Care Act and its application to Occupational Therapy assessments.
- Experience working with people with physical disabilities and complex or multiple disabilities.
- Ability to consider and assess carers’ needs where appropriate.
- Strong professional judgement and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively within relevant legal and policy frameworks.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a fast-paced caseload.
- Ability to work to short turnaround times, with assessments and cases targeted for completion within as little as 15 working days.
- Strong communication and multidisciplinary working skills.
