Rehabilitation Officer – Visual Impairment
Brief Job Overview
Tripod Partners are currently recruiting for an experienced Rehabilitation Officer for Visual Impairment (ROVI) to join Gloucestershire County Council at Shire Hall, within Gloucestershire Social Services. This is an ongoing locum opportunity, with an initial requirement of 3 months.
The successful Rehabilitation Officer will work as part of an integrated service supporting people with significant sight loss. The role focuses on delivering timely, person-centred rehabilitation interventions that maximise long-term independence, improve choice and quality of life, and minimise the need for ongoing support.
You will also provide individuals, their families and carers with appropriate information and advice about relevant sources of emotional, material and financial support available to them.
Key Responsibilities
- Work as part of an integrated service supporting people with significant sight loss.
- Provide timely rehabilitation interventions designed to maximise long-term independence and improve quality of life.
- Assess and respond to the impact of visual impairment on an individual’s daily life and independence.
- Use specialist knowledge to support individuals to develop and maintain their independence.
- Provide individuals, families and carers with clear information and advice about relevant emotional, material and financial support available.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and relevant Health and Social Care professionals to support coordinated outcomes.
- Contribute to reducing reliance on ongoing support through appropriate rehabilitation and preventative interventions.
- Maintain professional standards and accurate records in accordance with service requirements.
About You
We are looking for a Rehabilitation Officer who has specialist knowledge of working with people with visual impairment and a strong understanding of the impact significant sight loss can have on an individual’s independence and quality of life.
You should have experience working within a Health and Social Care setting, with the ability to provide practical information, advice and rehabilitation support to individuals, families and carers. Good IT skills and effective communication are also essential for the role.
Requirements
- Diploma in Rehabilitation for Visually Impaired People.
- Awareness of visual and hearing impairments and the impact these can have on an individual.
- Experience working within a Health and Social Care setting.
- Understanding of rehabilitation approaches that promote independence and quality of life.
- Ability to provide clear information and advice to individuals, families and carers.
- Good IT skills.
- Strong communication and partnership-working skills.
