Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are currently recruiting for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council in Birkenhead, within North West Social Services. This ongoing locum opportunity is based within Adult Social Care Equipment and Adaptations, supporting adults in the community to remain safe, independent and well at home.

The successful Occupational Therapist will undertake specialist assessments, recommend and arrange appropriate equipment and major adaptations, and develop practical solutions to meet people’s changing and longer-term needs. You will work closely with residents, families, carers and health and social care professionals to promote independence, manage risk and prevent deterioration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake high-quality Occupational Therapy assessments of adults in the community in line with the local authority’s statutory duties under the Care Act.
  • Assess functional needs and provide appropriate equipment and major adaptations to support safety, independence and wellbeing at home.
  • Develop practical, proportionate solutions that enable people to achieve their identified outcomes and maintain independence.
  • Assess, monitor and review individuals with multifaceted, changing needs and progressive conditions.
  • Support recovery and independence while identifying, reducing and managing risks.
  • Provide solutions that aid function and enable carers to continue effectively in their caring roles.
  • Support people with longer-term, developing and multiple needs, working collaboratively to ensure these needs are appropriately managed.
  • Work closely with social care, health and other professionals as part of a multi-agency approach.
  • Use strong problem-solving, risk-management and manual-handling skills to inform assessment and intervention.
  • Maintain accurate professional practice and work in accordance with relevant statutory duties, professional standards and local authority procedures.
  • Contribute to continued professional development and maintain high standards of Occupational Therapy practice.
  • Work flexibly across the Borough and from different locations according to service requirements.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist with strong expertise in adult social care equipment and adaptations. You will need to demonstrate excellent assessment, clinical reasoning, problem-solving, risk-management and manual-handling skills, with the ability to develop effective solutions for people with changing and complex needs.

You should be confident working collaboratively within multi-agency teams and communicating effectively with residents, families, carers and professional colleagues. A strong commitment to promoting independence, managing risk and achieving person-centred outcomes is essential.

Requirements

  • Occupational Therapy degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in line with relevant professional guidance.
  • Experience working within adult social care or a community Occupational Therapy setting.
  • Experience assessing and providing equipment and major adaptations.
  • Strong assessment, problem-solving, risk-management and manual-handling skills.
  • Experience working within and contributing to multi-agency teams.
  • Ability to travel across the Borough and work from various locations.
  • Ability to undertake relevant post-qualifying or vocational training as required.
  • Ability to demonstrate practice in accordance with professional standards and the HCPC Code of Conduct.
  • Relevant manual-handling or Moving with Dignity training would be desirable.
  • Further postgraduate training or a Master’s qualification in Occupational Therapy or another relevant subject would be desirable.
