Job Details

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join its Therapies Medicine service at Aintree Hospital.

The successful candidate will work within an acute medicine setting on a Medicine Escalation Ward, providing specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to support patients throughout their hospital journey.

You will play a key role in assessing patients’ functional and cognitive needs, providing appropriate equipment and contributing to safe and effective discharge planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions within an acute medical environment.

  • Assess patients’ functional abilities and identify appropriate therapeutic interventions.

  • Undertake cognitive assessments where clinically indicated.

  • Assess, prescribe and arrange appropriate equipment to support patients’ safety and independence.

  • Contribute to effective and timely discharge planning, working closely with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.

  • Attend daily board rounds and contribute Occupational Therapy expertise to discussions around patient management and discharge.

  • Identify and manage risks associated with patients’ functional, cognitive and social needs.

  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.

  • Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure documentation meets professional and NHS standards.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy.

  • Current HCPC registration.

  • Previous experience working as an Occupational Therapist within an acute hospital setting.

  • Experience within acute medicine is highly desirable.

  • Confident undertaking functional and cognitive assessments.

  • Experience assessing and providing appropriate equipment.

  • Strong understanding of discharge planning and multidisciplinary working.

  • Excellent clinical reasoning, communication and organisational skills.

  • Ability to manage a busy caseload and prioritise effectively within an acute environment.
