Job Details
West Berkshire Council is seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join its West Locality Adult Social Care Team on an ongoing locum basis.
The successful candidate will work with adults aged 18+ to complete person-centred assessments and provide specialist Occupational Therapy support to help people live safely within their communities, maximise their independence and make the most of their strengths and abilities.
This role offers an opportunity to work within a strengths-based environment focused on prevention, early intervention and reducing, preventing or delaying the need for ongoing care and support.
Key Responsibilities

Undertake comprehensive, person-centred Occupational Therapy assessments with adults aged 18+.

Support individuals to live safely in the community while maximising their independence, strengths and abilities.

Take a strengths-based and preventative approach to reduce, prevent or delay the need for care and support.

Provide advice and guidance to carers, helping them to continue in their caring role for as long as they wish or are able to.

Provide specialist Occupational Therapy advice and guidance to colleagues within the Adult Social Care team.

Undertake supervisory responsibilities where directed by the Team Leader.

Contribute effectively to the delivery of strategic and service objectives outlined in the Council’s annual service plan and wider strategy.

Provide administrative and advisory support to ensure the effective and smooth operation of the service.

Maintain accurate and robust professional records in accordance with HCPC and relevant professional body standards.

Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes for individuals and carers.
Essential Skills & Experience
-
Degree or equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy.

Current HCPC registration.
-
Experience working within an Adult Social Care or community-based Occupational Therapy setting.

Strong experience undertaking person-centred assessments and developing appropriate interventions.

Knowledge and practical application of a strengths-based approach.

Good understanding of relevant legislation and statutory frameworks, including:

Care Act 2014

Safeguarding
-
Mental Capacity legislation
-
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)

Continuing Healthcare (CHC)
-

Excellent communication, assessment and professional record-keeping skills.

Ability to provide specialist advice and guidance to colleagues.

Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team.
