Brief Job Overview
Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Manchester City Council, based at Philips Park Road, Manchester. Working within North West Social Services, you will join the Equipment and Adaptations service, providing specialist assessments for children and young people with physical and hidden disabilities.
This city-wide role focuses on complex and bespoke equipment, moving and handling, specialist seating, safety assessments, and minor and major adaptations. You will work closely with children, parents, carers, and other professionals to identify practical solutions that promote safety, independence, and participation at home.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out city-wide Occupational Therapy assessments for children with physical and hidden disabilities.
- Assess for complex and bespoke equipment to meet individual functional needs.
- Assess and recommend minor and major adaptations to children’s homes.
- Complete moving and handling risk assessments and provide appropriate training and advice to parents and carers.
- Assess and recommend specialist seating for children aged 0–18 with complex postural needs.
- Complete complex safety assessments to identify appropriate solutions within the home environment.
- Assess requirements for safe spaces, fencing, padded rooms, locks, and specialist beds.
- Assess for major adaptations including through-floor lifts, additional toilets, specialist baths, showers, and bathing equipment.
- Work collaboratively with children, parents, carers, and relevant professionals to develop appropriate equipment and adaptation solutions.
- Apply specialist clinical reasoning to complex equipment, moving and handling, postural, and environmental assessments.
- Provide clear recommendations based on assessed needs and the child’s individual circumstances.
About You
You will be an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist with strong knowledge of equipment and adaptations for children and young people. You will be confident undertaking complex assessments within family homes and making specialist recommendations relating to equipment, seating, moving and handling, safety, and housing adaptations.
You will have excellent assessment and problem-solving skills and be able to work collaboratively with parents, carers, and wider professionals to identify solutions that support children’s safety, function, and independence.
Requirements
- Relevant Occupational Therapy qualification.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Paediatric Occupational Therapy experience.
- Experience assessing children with physical and/or hidden disabilities.
- Experience with specialist equipment and adaptations.
- Experience undertaking moving and handling risk assessments.
- Knowledge of specialist seating and postural management for children.
- Experience assessing complex environmental and safety needs.
- Experience assessing minor and major housing adaptations is desirable.
- Strong clinical reasoning, assessment, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaborative working skills.
