Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity with Cheshire East Council, based at Delamere House. Working within North West Social Services, you will provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessments to support adults living in the community, helping them maximise their independence through equipment provision, home adaptations, rehabilitation, and person-centred advice.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with Adult Social Care or community experience who is passionate about enabling people to remain safely in their own homes. You will work closely with service users, carers, housing teams, NHS colleagues, and partner organisations to deliver practical solutions that improve quality of life and reduce reliance on long-term care.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments for adults with illness, disability, or reduced functional ability living within the community.
• Assess the need for specialist equipment, minor adaptations, and major adaptations to promote independent living.
• Determine appropriate adaptations based on diagnosis, prognosis, and functional assessment.
• Provide information, advice, and guidance to service users, carers, and families regarding available services and support.
• Assess individuals returning home from hospital or nursing homes and arrange equipment to facilitate safe and timely discharge.
• Identify and secure funding from external organisations, including charities, the NHS, and other Social Care teams where appropriate.
• Work with architects, surveyors, and housing professionals to review adaptation plans and ensure they meet assessed needs.
• Liaise with Housing, NHS services, voluntary organisations, and other agencies to coordinate effective multidisciplinary support.
• Negotiate with service users and partner agencies to deliver the most appropriate and cost-effective adaptation solutions.
• Inspect completed adaptations to ensure they meet assessed needs and recommend additional equipment where required.
• Assess for rehabilitation potential and make referrals to appropriate rehabilitation services.
• Maintain specialist knowledge of moving and handling, equipment provision, and emerging Occupational Therapy practice.
• Provide advice, teaching, and support to care staff on safe moving and handling techniques and equipment use.
• Maintain accurate case records and actively participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to meet HCPC registration requirements.

About You

You will be a HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with experience working within Adult Social Care, community rehabilitation, or housing adaptations. You will have strong assessment skills, sound clinical reasoning, and experience recommending equipment and adaptations that promote independence and improve outcomes for adults with complex needs.

You will be confident working autonomously while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams and partner organisations to deliver high-quality, person-centred services.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Experience working within Adult Social Care or community Occupational Therapy services.
• Experience assessing for specialist equipment and home adaptations.
• Knowledge of rehabilitation, discharge planning, and community-based interventions.
• Experience working with housing professionals, NHS teams, and voluntary organisations.
• Knowledge of moving and handling principles and equipment provision.
• Excellent assessment, communication, report writing, and organisational skills.
• Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and evidence-based practice.
