Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within North London Social Services. Based at 2 Bristol Avenue, Colindale with the London Borough of Barnet, this role is within the Urgent Response Occupational Therapy Team, delivering rapid assessments and interventions for adults with urgent moving and handling needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with strong manual handling expertise and Adult Social Care experience. You will provide urgent Occupational Therapy and Moving and Handling Risk Assessments, helping to reduce risks, protect carers, and enable adults to remain safely in their own homes through timely, person-centred interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage referrals requiring urgent intervention where individuals or carers are at immediate risk of injury.
  • Assess and recommend appropriate moving and handling techniques, specialist equipment, and safe transfer solutions.
  • Complete manual handling assessments for requests to increase from single-handed to double-handed care packages.
  • Respond to safeguarding concerns relating to equipment provision or unsafe moving and handling practices.
  • Assess situations where existing equipment is unsuitable, unrepairable, or no longer meets the individual’s needs.
  • Provide urgent interventions for people unable to transfer safely between beds, chairs, toilets, or negotiate stairs.
  • Support individuals with palliative care needs where specialist services are not already involved.
  • Participate in the team’s duty Occupational Therapist rota, providing responsive support one day each week.
  • Work collaboratively with Social Workers, healthcare professionals, equipment providers, carers, and partner agencies to deliver coordinated care.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records, risk assessments, and recommendations in accordance with HCPC and local authority standards.

About You

You will be a HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with experience working within Adult Social Care or community Occupational Therapy services. You will have excellent manual handling knowledge and be confident undertaking complex risk assessments while working independently in fast-paced community settings.

You will be a proactive team player with strong communication, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving skills, committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred interventions that maximise safety and independence.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within Adult Social Care or community Occupational Therapy services.
  • Excellent manual handling and moving and handling assessment experience.
  • Strong knowledge of specialist equipment and safe transfer techniques.
  • Experience undertaking complex risk assessments and safeguarding-related interventions.
