Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 7 Highly Specialist Physiotherapist for a locum opportunity within West London NHS. Based in Harrow with Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, this role is within the Paediatric Physiotherapy Service, providing highly specialist community physiotherapy for children and young people aged 0–19 years.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior Paediatric Physiotherapist with expertise in complex neurodevelopmental conditions, Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD), and special educational needs. Working across special schools, community settings, the paediatric therapy unit, and family homes, you will deliver specialist assessment, treatment, leadership, and service development while supporting children, families, education providers, and multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide highly specialist Physiotherapy assessment, treatment, and management for children and young people aged 0–19 with complex physical, neurological, and developmental needs.
• Manage an autonomous specialist caseload across special schools, community settings, the Paediatric Therapy Unit, and home environments.
• Lead the Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD) pathway, coordinating assessments and evidence-based intervention programmes.
• Deliver specialist physiotherapy services for children with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), those attending special schools, and children without an educational placement.
• Work collaboratively with Occupational Therapists, teachers, nurses, doctors, social care professionals, and families to develop coordinated, child-centred care plans.
• Provide specialist advice, education, and training to parents, carers, schools, healthcare professionals, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
• Represent the Physiotherapy Service at internal and external multidisciplinary meetings relating to DCD and specialist paediatric services.
• Provide line management, supervision, appraisal, mentoring, and professional development for Physiotherapists and support staff.
• Lead clinical audit, research, quality improvement initiatives, and service development projects within the specialist area.
• Review and update clinical pathways, departmental policies, and evidence-based practice in response to new research and national guidance.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.

About You

You will be an experienced HCPC-registered Physiotherapist with substantial experience in paediatric community services and specialist neurodevelopmental rehabilitation. You will be confident managing highly complex caseloads, leading clinical pathways, supervising staff, and working collaboratively across Health, Education, and Social Care to improve outcomes for children and young people.

You will possess excellent leadership, communication, clinical reasoning, and organisational skills, together with a passion for delivering high-quality, evidence-based paediatric physiotherapy services.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Significant post-registration experience within paediatric physiotherapy.
• Experience working with children and young people with complex physical disabilities, neurodevelopmental conditions, and profound and multiple learning disabilities.
• Experience delivering services within community settings and special educational environments.
• Knowledge and experience of Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD) assessment and intervention.
• Experience supervising, mentoring, and line managing staff.
• Strong leadership, service development, audit, and quality improvement experience.
• Excellent communication and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
• Ability to travel between schools, clinics, and community locations.
