Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within West Midlands Social Care. Based with Walsall Council, this hybrid role supports adults, children, and carers by delivering high-quality Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions that promote independence, wellbeing, and choice.

Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will assess functional needs, prescribe equipment, recommend home adaptations, and develop reablement programmes that enable individuals to live safely and independently. This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist who is passionate about person-centred practice, prevention, and improving outcomes across the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments to identify strengths, needs, and opportunities to maximise independence.
  • Assess functional abilities and develop person-centred intervention plans that prevent, reduce, or delay ongoing care and support needs.
  • Prescribe, order, and coordinate the provision of specialist equipment and assistive technology.
  • Demonstrate the safe and effective use of equipment to service users, carers, and support networks.
  • Assess for and recommend minor and major home adaptations to support safe independent living.
  • Design, implement, monitor, and review reablement programmes that promote recovery and independence.
  • Undertake moving and handling assessments, complete risk assessments, and develop safe systems of work.
  • Promote single-handed care solutions where appropriate to improve independence and reduce risk.
  • Work collaboratively with housing teams, health professionals, carers, and partner agencies to deliver coordinated outcomes.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to formal and informal carers regarding safe moving and handling practices.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant case records in accordance with HCPC standards and relevant legislation.

About You

You will be an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with experience working within community services or Social Care. You will have excellent assessment and clinical reasoning skills, together with experience recommending equipment, adaptations, and reablement interventions that enable people to achieve greater independence.

You will be a proactive team player with strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering strengths-based, person-centred care across a varied caseload.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within Adult or Children’s Social Care, community rehabilitation, or similar services.
  • Experience assessing for specialist equipment, assistive technology, and home adaptations.
  • Knowledge of moving and handling principles, risk assessment, and single-handed care approaches.
  • Experience delivering reablement and rehabilitation programmes.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, relevant legislation, and person-centred practice.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
