Occupational Therapist – Band 6

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within South West London NHS. Based at West Middlesex University Hospital, part of Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, this role is within the Respiratory Medicine Service, supporting patients with complex medical and respiratory conditions through rehabilitation and discharge planning.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with acute NHS experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. You will work across ICU, respiratory, cardiology, enhanced care, and surgical wards, delivering specialist rehabilitation and supporting safe, timely discharges for patients with complex needs, including those stepping down from intensive care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment for patients across respiratory medicine, ICU, cardiology, enhanced care, and surgical wards.
  • Manage a varied caseload of patients with complex medical and respiratory conditions.
  • Undertake comprehensive functional, cognitive, and environmental assessments.
  • Deliver evidence-based rehabilitation programmes to maximise independence and functional recovery.
  • Lead and coordinate complex discharge planning to support safe and timely hospital discharge.
  • Support the rehabilitation of patients transitioning from ICU through post-intensive care recovery pathways.
  • Work autonomously within a busy acute environment, effectively prioritising clinical workload.
  • Work flexibly across clinical areas in response to service demands.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.

About You

You will be an experienced HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with a strong background in acute hospital services. You will be confident managing complex rehabilitation, coordinating discharge planning, and working collaboratively across multiple clinical specialties within a multidisciplinary team.

Experience within respiratory medicine, intensive care, cardiology, surgical services, or acute medicine is highly desirable, together with excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Relevant UK NHS Occupational Therapy experience.
  • Strong acute hospital experience.
  • Experience in respiratory medicine, ICU, cardiology, surgical services, or acute medicine is desirable.
  • Excellent rehabilitation and complex discharge planning experience.
  • Ability to manage complex caseloads and work autonomously under pressure.
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care.
