Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within West Midlands Social Care. Based with Walsall Council, this role sits within the Prevention & Early Intervention Service, supporting adults with physical disabilities to maintain independence, reduce risk, and remain safely within their own homes.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive community team delivering strengths-based, person-centred Occupational Therapy interventions. You will work autonomously across a varied community caseload, helping to prevent hospital admissions, reduce reliance on long-term care, and promote meaningful engagement in everyday life through early intervention and rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments using a person-centred, strengths-based approach.
  • Assess adults with physical disabilities and develop outcome-focused intervention plans that maximise independence.
  • Manage and prioritise a varied community caseload while working autonomously with access to regular supervision.
  • Assess, recommend, and arrange minor equipment, specialist equipment, and major adaptations, including Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) applications.
  • Complete moving and handling assessments and provide specialist advice to service users and carers.
  • Prepare rehousing reports and provide advice, signposting, and onward referrals to appropriate services.
  • Promote falls prevention, risk reduction, and interventions that prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and long-term care packages.
  • Work collaboratively with service users, carers, housing teams, health professionals, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Apply the Care Act and safeguarding principles to all aspects of practice.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant case records and professional documentation.

About You

You will be an experienced HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with a strong background in Adult Social Care and community practice. You will be confident working independently, delivering strengths-based interventions, and supporting adults with complex physical needs to remain safe and independent within their own homes.

You will possess excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills, together with a proactive and collaborative approach to multidisciplinary working.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Previous community Adult Social Care Occupational Therapy experience.
  • At least two years’ post-qualification experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience assessing for specialist equipment, major adaptations, and Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs).
  • Experience undertaking moving and handling assessments.
  • Strong understanding of the Care Act, safeguarding, and strengths-based practice.
  • Enhanced DBS (Adults and Children).
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Excellent assessment, communication, report-writing, and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
