Social Care Advisor – Children’s Social Care
Role Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and customer-focused Social Care Advisor to join a busy Children’s Social Care service. This is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role as the first point of contact for children, families, professionals and members of the public, ensuring that enquiries are responded to promptly and that children receive the right support at the right time.
Working within a fast-paced safeguarding environment, you will provide advice, information and guidance, screen referrals, identify levels of need and direct enquiries to the appropriate services. You will work closely with Social Workers and a range of partner agencies to support effective safeguarding and early intervention.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact for Children’s Social Care enquiries from residents, professionals and partner agencies.
- Provide a responsive, professional and customer-focused advice and information service.
- Screen referrals and identify levels of need in accordance with safeguarding thresholds and local procedures.
- Signpost children, families and professionals to appropriate internal and external support services.
- Refer safeguarding concerns to Children’s Social Care and other specialist services where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with Social Workers and partner agencies including the Police, Health Services, Schools, Housing and Probation.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records using the appropriate case management systems.
- Ensure enquiries are managed efficiently and in accordance with statutory guidance and organisational procedures.
About You
You will be an organised and empathetic professional with excellent communication skills and a genuine commitment to supporting children and families. You will be confident handling sensitive enquiries, making informed decisions and working effectively within a busy, multi-agency safeguarding environment.
Requirements
- Experience working within Children’s Social Care, customer services, safeguarding or a similar frontline environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to assess information, identify risk and make appropriate referral decisions.
- Knowledge of children’s safeguarding principles and referral pathways.
- Experience working with confidential information and maintaining accurate records.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Social Workers and a wide range of partner agencies.
