Hand Therapist – Band 6

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Hand Therapist for a locum opportunity within Surrey NHS. Based at Epsom Hospital, part of Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, this role is within a specialist Musculoskeletal Hand Therapy service, supporting patients with a wide range of hand and wrist conditions.

Suitable for either an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist, this role offers the opportunity to manage a varied caseload of elective, trauma, plastics, and rheumatology patients. You will deliver specialist assessment, bespoke splinting, wound care, and evidence-based rehabilitation to maximise patients’ functional recovery and independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist assessment and treatment for patients with a wide range of hand and wrist conditions.
  • Manage an independent caseload of elective, acute trauma, plastics, and rheumatology patients.
  • Assess, design, fabricate, and fit bespoke splints to meet individual patient needs.
  • Develop and deliver personalised rehabilitation programmes to restore function and promote recovery.
  • Provide wound management, including dressing changes and removal of sutures where appropriate.
  • Monitor patient progress and adapt treatment plans using evidence-based clinical reasoning.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary Hand Therapy team to deliver coordinated patient care.
  • Provide patient education, home exercise programmes, and self-management advice.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a safe, effective, and high-quality Hand Therapy service.

About You

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with specialist experience in Hand Therapy. You will have an excellent understanding of hand and wrist pathologies and be confident managing patients with trauma, elective orthopaedic, plastics, and rheumatology conditions.

You will be skilled in bespoke splinting, wound management, and rehabilitation, with the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a supportive multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Previous experience working within a Hand Therapy service.
  • Excellent understanding of hand and wrist pathologies and evidence-based management.
  • Experience treating acute elective, trauma, plastics, and rheumatology patients.
  • Competence in fabricating and fitting bespoke hand splints.
  • Experience in wound care and suture removal.
  • Ability to develop personalised rehabilitation programmes.
  • Strong clinical reasoning, communication, and caseload management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Contract & Salary
