Occupational Therapist – Rehousing Team

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within North West Social Services. Based with Manchester City Council, this role sits within the Rehousing Team, supporting children and adults to access suitable housing through specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and housing adaptation expertise.

This is an excellent opportunity to combine Occupational Therapy and housing knowledge to help individuals achieve safe, accessible, and sustainable living arrangements. You will assess people within their own homes, recommend adaptations, support housing priority assessments, and work closely with applicants throughout the rehousing process. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement with a combination of office, home, and community-based working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessments within service users’ homes to identify housing and adaptation needs.
  • Assess children and adults for housing priority and provide recommendations to support rehousing decisions.
  • Complete reports detailing functional needs, housing requirements, and recommendations for adaptations.
  • Match applicants to suitable adapted properties and accompany applicants on property viewings where required.
  • Provide specialist advice on housing options and adaptations that promote independence and improve quality of life.
  • Manage a varied caseload, ensuring timely assessments and positive housing outcomes.
  • Develop practical solutions for complex rehousing and adaptation cases.
  • Work collaboratively with housing teams, social care colleagues, health professionals, and partner agencies.
  • Maintain accurate case records and professional documentation in accordance with HCPC and organisational standards.
  • Support a joined-up, person-centred approach to housing, independence, and wellbeing.

About You

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with strong knowledge of housing adaptations and community-based assessment. You will be passionate about helping people access suitable accommodation that enables them to live safely and independently.

You will be confident managing complex cases, working autonomously across community settings, and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive outcomes for service users.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within Adult Social Care or Community Occupational Therapy.
  • Significant experience assessing for housing adaptations and accessible accommodation.
  • Knowledge of rehousing processes, housing priority assessments, and Disabled Facilities Adaptations.
  • Excellent assessment, report-writing, and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Experience managing complex community caseloads.
  • Strong communication and partnership-working skills.
  • Ability to travel across Greater Manchester to undertake home visits and property viewings.
