Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Hand Therapist for a locum opportunity within Surrey NHS. Based at Epsom Hospital, part of Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, this role offers the opportunity to join a specialist Hand Therapy service delivering high-quality rehabilitation for patients with a wide range of hand and wrist conditions.
Suitable for either an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist, this role involves managing a varied caseload of acute elective, trauma, plastics, and rheumatology patients. You will provide specialist assessment, treatment, splinting, wound management, and personalised rehabilitation programmes to support patients in achieving the best possible functional outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessment and treatment for patients with hand and wrist conditions.
- Manage a varied caseload including acute elective, trauma, plastics, and rheumatology patients.
- Assess, design, fabricate, and fit bespoke hand splints tailored to individual patient needs.
- Develop personalised rehabilitation and recovery programmes to maximise functional outcomes.
- Provide wound care management, including dressing changes and suture removal where appropriate.
- Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans based on clinical presentation and recovery.
- Work autonomously while collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary Hand Therapy team.
- Provide patient education, advice, and exercise programmes to support rehabilitation.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.
- Contribute to the delivery of a high-quality, evidence-based Hand Therapy service.
About You
You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with specialist experience in Hand Therapy. You will have a strong understanding of hand and wrist pathologies and be confident delivering specialist assessment, splinting, wound management, and rehabilitation for patients across a range of clinical presentations.
You will be able to work independently while contributing positively to a supportive multidisciplinary team, demonstrating excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Previous experience working within a Hand Therapy service.
- Excellent knowledge of hand and wrist pathologies and evidence-based management.
- Experience treating acute elective, trauma, plastics, and rheumatology patients.
- Competence in the assessment, fabrication, and fitting of bespoke splints.
- Experience in wound management and suture removal.
- Ability to develop personalised rehabilitation programmes.
- Strong clinical reasoning, communication, and caseload management skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Contract & Salary
- Role: Hand Therapist – Band 6

- Salary: Negotiable
- Working Hours: 30 hours per week, flexible across Monday to Friday (08:00/08:30 – 16:00/16:30). Full-time or part-time applicants will be considered.
