Paediatric Occupational Therapist – Band 6/7

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within Bedfordshire NHS. Working with East of England Community Health and Care Trust across Luton and Bedford, this role supports Children’s Services across a range of mainstream and specialist school settings.

The successful candidate will provide specialist assessment, treatment, and advice to children and young people with a wide range of developmental, neurological, physical, learning, behavioural, and sensory needs. Working as part of a multidisciplinary and multi-agency team, you will support children to maximise participation, independence, and achievement within educational, home, and community environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist occupational therapy assessments for children and young people referred to the Paediatric Occupational Therapy Service.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans tailored to individual needs and goals.
  • Work collaboratively with families, schools, healthcare professionals, and partner agencies.
  • Deliver therapeutic interventions within mainstream and specialist educational settings.
  • Assess and support children with physical, developmental, sensory, learning, emotional, and behavioural difficulties.
  • Provide advice, training, and recommendations to parents, carers, teaching staff, and other professionals.
  • Monitor and review progress, adapting intervention plans where required.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and reports in accordance with HCPC and NHS standards.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, reviews, and education planning processes.
  • Promote participation, independence, and positive outcomes for children and young people.

About You

You will be an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist with strong assessment and intervention skills across a broad range of childhood conditions and developmental needs.

You will be confident working autonomously within schools and community settings while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams. Excellent communication, clinical reasoning, and relationship-building skills are essential.

Requirements

  • BSc Occupational Therapy (BScOT) or Diploma in Occupational Therapy (DipCOT).
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working within paediatric occupational therapy services.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of paediatric conditions including:
    • Cerebral Palsy
    • Muscular Dystrophy
    • Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD)
    • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
    • Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
    • Neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions
    • Developmental and genetic conditions
  • Experience working within education, community, or children’s therapy services.
  • Strong assessment, report-writing, and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary team-working abilities.
