Occupational Therapist – Adult Community Occupational Therapy (ACOT) Service

 

Brief Job Overview

 

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within South London Social Services. Based with the London Borough of Croydon, this role sits within the Adult Community Occupational Therapy (ACOT) Service – Major Adaptations Unit, supporting adults to remain safe, independent, and engaged within their homes through the provision of major adaptations, specialist equipment, and manual handling solutions.

 

The successful candidate will undertake home visits, complete specialist assessments, and oversee complex adaptation projects from initial assessment through to completion. This role requires extensive knowledge of major adaptations, specialist equipment, manual handling, and collaborative working with housing professionals, contractors, and partner agencies.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Undertake home visits to assess individuals’ functional needs and environmental requirements.
  • Follow up on recommendations made by Occupational Therapy locality teams.
  • Assess, recommend, and arrange the provision of major adaptations and complex specialist equipment.
  • Prepare sketches, interpret architectural plans, and provide detailed specifications for adaptation works.
  • Monitor adaptation projects from assessment stage through to completion.
  • Liaise with surveyors, contractors, housing teams, and other partner agencies to ensure adaptations meet assessed needs.
  • Undertake manual handling assessments and recommend appropriate risk management solutions.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance to service users, carers, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation in accordance with HCPC and local authority standards.
  • Promote independence, safety, and person-centred outcomes through effective occupational therapy practice.

 

About You

 

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with a strong background in 
major adaptations, specialist equipment provision, and adult social care. You will be confident managing complex adaptation cases and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to deliver effective outcomes.

 

You will possess excellent clinical reasoning, report-writing, and project management skills, alongside the ability to work autonomously and manage a varied caseload.

 

Requirements

 

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration (essential).
  • Significant experience within Adult Social Care Occupational Therapy services.
  • Extensive knowledge of major adaptations and specialist equipment provision.
  • Experience preparing sketches, reading plans, and producing detailed specifications for adaptation works.
  • Strong manual handling assessment experience.
  • Knowledge of housing adaptations processes and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex cases.
