Occupational Therapist – Children with Disabilities Team

 

Brief Job Overview

 

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within Berkshire Social Services. Based with Wokingham Borough Council, this role sits within the Children with Disabilities Team and focuses on assessing, recommending, and reviewing specialist equipment and home adaptations for children and young people with disabilities.

 

The successful candidate will work closely with children, families, social care professionals, healthcare colleagues, and housing partners to promote independence, improve safety, and ensure children can access their home environment effectively. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive multidisciplinary service dedicated to improving outcomes for children and young people.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Assess children and young people with disabilities to identify needs and develop intervention plans.
  • Promote independence, participation, and safety through occupational therapy interventions.
  • Arrange and review specialist equipment and minor adaptations to meet assessed needs.
  • Demonstrate the safe and effective use of equipment to parents and carers.
  • Identify the need for major adaptations and provide guidance throughout the adaptation process.
  • Liaise with Grants Officers, surveyors, architects, builders, and other professionals to ensure adaptations meet assessed needs.
  • Complete housing needs reports to support medical priority housing applications.
  • Maintain accurate records, assessments, care plans, reviews, and risk assessments on electronic systems.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and joint working arrangements.
  • Refer to other services and professionals where appropriate to ensure holistic support.

 

About You

 

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist with a background in 
children’s disability services. You will have experience assessing children and young people, recommending specialist equipment, and supporting families through adaptation processes.

 

You will possess excellent communication and organisational skills and be confident working collaboratively with families, education providers, housing professionals, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver positive outcomes.

 

Requirements

 

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Experience working with children and young people with disabilities.
  • Experience assessing and recommending specialist equipment and adaptations.
  • Knowledge of major and minor adaptation processes.
  • Experience working within children’s services, social care, or community settings.
  • Strong report-writing, assessment, and case management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary professionals.
  • Competent IT skills and experience maintaining electronic case records.

 

Contract & Salary

 

  • Role: Occupational Therapist – Children with Disabilities Team
  • Sector: Berkshire Social Services
  • Contract Type: Locum
  • Contract Length: 40 weeks
  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid working – minimum 2 days per week in the office
  • Salary: £300.57 per day (Limited/Umbrella)
  • Location: Ambleside Close, Woodley, Reading
