Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview

Tripod Partners are recruiting an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist for a locum opportunity within North West Social Services. Based with Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, this role sits within the Children with Disabilities (CWD) Team, supporting children and young people with complex needs to maximise their independence, safety, and participation within their home environments and wider communities.

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality occupational therapy assessments and interventions, working closely with children, families, carers, and partner agencies to improve outcomes and promote independence. The role involves managing a complex caseload, undertaking specialist assessments, and recommending equipment, adaptations, and long-term interventions where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess the needs of children and young people with complex and specialist needs within their home environment.
  • Undertake comprehensive occupational therapy assessments and develop person-centred intervention plans.
  • Complete risk assessments where environmental risks cannot be reduced to a reasonable level.
  • Carry out manual handling assessments to minimise risks for children, families, and carers.
  • Provide advice and guidance regarding disability management, independence, and daily living activities.
  • Recommend and arrange specialist equipment, minor adaptations, and major adaptations where appropriate.
  • Manage a complex caseload independently, with support from the Team Manager as required.
  • Work collaboratively with children, parents, carers, schools, health professionals, and partner agencies.
  • Prepare clear and accurate reports, assessments, and case records in line with legal and organisational requirements.
  • Provide information, advice, and signposting for children and families with lower-level needs.
  • Support, mentor, and provide guidance to new staff members, students, and colleagues.
  • Contribute to service development initiatives, projects, and team improvement activities.

About You

You will be an experienced Paediatric Occupational Therapist with a strong background in supporting children and young people with disabilities and complex needs.
