Job Title: Moving and Handling Advisor

Location: Manchester City Council

Area: North West Social Services

Salary: £36ph

Job Type: Locum

Contract Length: Ongoing

Service: MEAP Moving and Handling Team

Job Details:

  • Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist required for the MEAP Moving and Handling Team.
  • Provide specialist moving and handling assessments to support individuals to remain safely and independently in their own homes.
  • Undertake complex moving and handling risk assessments and provide recommendations for equipment and adaptations.
  • Assess and recommend specialist equipment including ceiling track hoists, slings and other moving and handling aids.
  • Develop safe moving and handling plans tailored to individual needs.
  • Deliver training to families and paid carers on safe manual handling techniques and the correct use of equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with health professionals, care agencies, families and other key stakeholders to deliver coordinated care.
  • Promote independence, choice, safety and quality of life through appropriate risk management and equipment provision.
  • Support delivery of an efficient, cohesive and cost-effective community service.

Skills / Experience:

  • Extensive experience in moving and handling assessments within community or social care settings.
  • Accredited manual handling of people training.
  • Experience delivering moving and handling training to carers and family members.
  • Experience assessing for specialist equipment including hoists, slings and complex adaptations.
  • Trusted Assessor Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience assessing for equipment and major adaptations.
  • Strong risk assessment skills and ability to produce safe moving and handling plans.
  • Knowledge of models of practice relating to moving and handling assessments and interventions.
  • Understanding of social care legislation and community care frameworks.
  • Ability to work independently and hit the ground running in a fast-paced service.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Desirable:

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy.
  • Knowledge of complex equipment and major adaptations.
