Job Title: Moving and Handling Advisor

Location: Manchester City Council

Area: North West Social Services

Salary: £36ph

Service: MEAP Moving and Handling Team

Job Details:

  • Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist required for the MEAP Moving and Handling Team.
  • Provide specialist moving and handling assessments to support citizens to remain safely and independently within their own homes.
  • Undertake complex moving and handling risk assessments and provide recommendations for appropriate equipment and adaptations.
  • Assess and recommend specialist equipment including ceiling track hoists, slings and other moving and handling aids.
  • Deliver moving and handling training to families and paid carers on the safe use of equipment.
  • Work closely with health professionals, care agencies, families and key stakeholders to ensure coordinated and effective support.
  • Promote independence, choice, safety and quality of life through appropriate intervention and risk management.
  • Support the delivery of a cohesive, efficient and cost-effective service within the community.

Skills / Experience:

  • Extensive experience in moving and handling assessments within community or social care settings.
  • Accredited manual handling of people training and experience delivering training to carers and families.
  • Experience assessing for complex equipment, hoists, slings and major adaptations.
  • Trusted Assessor Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience in equipment and adaptations assessments.
  • Ability to carry out complex risk assessments and provide practical solutions for activities of daily living.
  • Knowledge of relevant Social Care legislation.
  • Experience working with individuals with a range of medical conditions and support needs.
  • Ability to work independently and hit the ground running.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check.

Desirable:

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy.
  • Knowledge of moving and handling models of practice and intervention approaches.
