Occupational Therapist – Band 5 (2 Roles, Locum)

Role Overview

Two Band 5 Occupational Therapists are required to join the Inpatient Acute Mental Health Service in Luton. These roles offer an excellent opportunity to work within a well-established multidisciplinary team delivering recovery-focused, client-centred occupational therapy to adults admitted to acute mental health wards.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention to adults within inpatient acute mental health units.
  • Use assessment and evaluation tools aligned to the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO).
  • Deliver recovery-focused, client-centred interventions to support goals in self-care, productivity and leisure.
  • Contribute to positive and timely discharge planning as part of the MDT.
  • Develop and enhance the occupational therapy programme on the ward and in the community.
  • Provide 1:1 interventions, facilitate group work and support access to community resources.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with Trust standards.

Support & Development

  • Structured and supportive induction programme.
  • Support to complete preceptorship if not yet completed.
  • Regular managerial and professional supervision.
  • Monthly OT CPD events and opportunities to contribute to service development and quality improvement.
  • Ongoing professional development supported through appraisal.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist with HCPC registration.
  • Interest or experience in acute mental health settings.
  • Understanding of recovery-focused and client-centred practice.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication, organisation and clinical reasoning skills.
