Speech and Language Therapist – Band 6 (Locum)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, working cross-site across Carlisle and Whitehaven within the North West NHS. This locum role covers both acute adult and adult community services, providing specialist speech and language therapy assessment and intervention for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. You will manage a specialist caseload across varied clinical settings and play an important role in supporting patient outcomes across hospital and community pathways.

Key Responsibilities

  •   
    • Provide specialist assessment, management, and treatment of adults with communication and/or swallowing difficulties across acute and community settings.
       

    • Manage a specialist Speech and Language Therapy caseload of adults with diverse and complex therapy needs.
       

    • Undertake comprehensive assessments using analytical and clinical reasoning skills to inform diagnosis.
       

    • Develop and implement individualised management and treatment plans using a range of evidence-based therapy interventions.
       

    • Evaluate therapy outcomes and adapt programmes of care accordingly.
       

    • Participate in the coordination, development, and delivery of training and information for colleagues, voluntary sector organisations, and families/carers.
       

    • Promote health, reduce health inequalities, and support adults and communities to maximise functional potential.
       

    • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver integrated, person-centred care.

     

    About You

     

    You are a confident and adaptable Speech and Language Therapist with experience working across acute and community adult services. You bring strong clinical reasoning, assessment, and intervention skills, alongside excellent communication and a collaborative approach. You are comfortable managing a varied specialist caseload across multiple sites and contributing to training and service development activity.

     

    Requirements

      

      • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and current HCPC registration.
         

      • Experience providing speech and language therapy to adult patients with communication and/or swallowing difficulties.
         

      • Ability to undertake comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and specialist intervention planning.
         

      • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams across health and community services.
         

      • Excellent communication, documentation, and organisational skills.
         

      • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential due to cross-site working across Cumbria.

      • Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 08:00/08:30 – 16:00/16:30)
