Occupational Therapist – Adaptations (Locum)
Job Overview
We are recruiting a skilled and experienced Occupational Therapist to join Blackburn with Darwen Council, based in Blackburn, within North West Social Services. This locum role focuses on the delivery of community-based occupational therapy assessments and interventions for individuals requiring equipment, minor adaptations, and major home adaptations to support independence, safety, and wellbeing. The post is available to start as soon as possible and involves close working with service users, families, and partner professionals across the local authority.
Key Responsibilities

- Carry out comprehensive community-based occupational therapy assessments within a local authority setting.
- Identify functional needs and recommend appropriate standard and specialist equipment.
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate both minor and major home adaptations to enhance safety and independence.
- Undertake manual handling assessments and provide clear risk-managed recommendations.
- Work collaboratively with service users, families, housing teams, contractors, and health and social care professionals.
- Develop individualised, outcomes-focused support plans.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant records in line with professional and council standards.
About You
You are an experienced Occupational Therapist with a strong background in community adaptations and local authority practice. You bring excellent clinical reasoning, sound knowledge of equipment and housing adaptations, and a practical, person-centred approach to supporting people to live safely and independently at home. You are organised, confident in autonomous practice, and communicate effectively with both professionals and service users.
Requirements

- Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration.
- Demonstrated experience working within a local authority setting.
- Strong experience in manual handling assessments.
- Sound knowledge of equipment provision and home adaptation processes (minor and major adaptations).
- Excellent communication, organisational, and documentation skills.
- Enhanced DBS clearance.
