About the Role

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is seeking an experienced Band 6/7 Speech and Language Therapist with specialist palliative care experience to provide community-based SLT support for adults with life-limiting conditions. This highly rewarding role focuses on delivering dysphagia and communication management for patients with cancer diagnoses, motor neurone disease and those receiving end-of-life care.

The role will primarily involve domiciliary visits across the RCT and Merthyr areas (not Bridgend), with occasional input to patients temporarily residing on a palliative care ward.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist assessment and intervention for adults requiring palliative Speech and Language Therapy support.
  • Deliver dysphagia assessment and management for patients with complex progressive or terminal conditions.
  • Conduct home visits to patients with a range of cancer diagnoses, MND and those receiving end-of-life care.
  • Attend virtual MDT meetings and contribute to coordinated care planning with palliative care teams.
  • Provide occasional SLT input to palliative ward patients as required.
  • Offer expert communication advice, training and support to families, carers and other professionals.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation aligned with HCPC and Health Board standards.

Requirements

  • HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Specialist experience in palliative care (essential).
  • Dysphagia trained and competent in managing complex swallowing needs.
  • Experience working with patients with cancer diagnoses and motor neurone disease.
  • Ability to work autonomously across community settings, including home visits.
  • Strong MDT collaboration, communication and compassionate patient-centred practice.

Working Pattern

  • Up to 2 days per week (7 hours per day preferred).
  • Flexible scheduling, primarily community domiciliary visits.
  • Attendance at virtual MDT meetings required.
