About the Role
Bromley Council is seeking a proactive and compassionate Social Work Assistant to join our Children’s Services team on a 3-month interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced support professional to contribute to the delivery of high-quality social care services that promote the welfare, safety, and development of children, young people, and families across the borough.
As a Social Work Assistant, you will support qualified Social Workers in delivering effective interventions, carrying out visits, and assisting in the preparation of reports and assessments. You’ll play a key role in helping children and families access the right support, at the right time, in a way that empowers them to make positive and lasting changes.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist Social Workers in carrying out statutory duties, including Child in Need and Child Protection planning.
- Undertake direct work with children, young people, and families under the guidance of qualified practitioners.
- Conduct home visits to gather information, monitor progress, and ensure the safety and wellbeing of children.
- Support the preparation of assessments, reports, and case records in line with local authority procedures.
- Liaise with schools, health professionals, and other partner agencies to coordinate support for families.
- Provide practical assistance to families, helping them access services, appointments, and community resources.
- Ensure that the child’s voice is central to all work and that practice is informed by a strengths-based, relational approach.
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection standards.
Requirements
- Relevant qualification in social care, childcare, or a related field (e.g. Level 3 or above).
- Experience supporting children, young people, and families within a social care or community setting.
- Good understanding of safeguarding principles and the role of Children’s Services.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work flexibly, both independently and as part of a multi-agency team.
- Empathy, resilience, and a commitment to improving outcomes for vulnerable children and families.
