Duration: 3 months

About the Role

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is seeking an experienced and passionate Social Worker to join our Children’s Services team on a 3-month interim basis. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-quality social work practice in a progressive, child-focused local authority that places the wellbeing and safety of children at the centre of everything it does.

As a Social Worker, you will undertake assessments, provide direct support to children and families, and work collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive. You’ll be joining a service that is committed to relational, trauma-informed, and strengths-based practice, ensuring that interventions are meaningful and sustainable.

Main Responsibilities

  • Undertake assessments of children and families in line with statutory frameworks and local procedures.

  • Develop, implement, and review Child in Need, Child Protection, and Care Plans that promote the safety and wellbeing of children.

  • Manage a caseload of varying complexity, ensuring timely and effective interventions in response to identified risks and needs.

  • Work collaboratively with children, families, and multi-agency partners to achieve positive, long-lasting outcomes.

  • Prepare clear, analytical, and evidence-based reports for case conferences, reviews, and court proceedings.

  • Ensure that the child’s voice and lived experience are central to all assessments, planning, and decision-making.

  • Contribute to reflective supervision, learning, and development within the team to support continuous improvement.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in accordance with local authority policies and statutory guidance.

Requirements

  • Essential qualification: Degree in Social Work (DipSW, CQSW, CSS, or equivalent).

  • Registration: Registered with Social Work England.

  • Proven post-qualifying experience in children’s social care, including assessment, safeguarding, and intervention work.

  • Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory responsibilities, and best practice guidance.

  • Excellent communication, report-writing, and organisational skills.

  • Ability to build effective relationships with children, families, and multi-agency professionals.

  • Commitment to strengths-based, trauma-informed, and child-centred social work practice.
