Senior Social Worker – Children’s Services (Barnet Council)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Senior Social Worker (Qualified Social Worker – QSW)** to join **Barnet Council’s Children’s Services**. This role involves managing complex safeguarding cases, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring children and families receive safe, effective, and high-quality support.
As a Senior Social Worker, you will handle challenging casework, provide professional guidance to colleagues, and work collaboratively with families and multi-agency partners to deliver positive outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act to identify risks, strengths, and needs.
Develop, implement, and review child-focused care and protection plans.
Provide mentoring, coaching, and professional support to newly qualified and less experienced social workers.
Prepare and present evidence-based reports for child protection conferences, statutory reviews, and court proceedings.
Work directly with children, young people, and families to build supportive and trusting relationships.
Collaborate with schools, health professionals, police, and voluntary sector partners to ensure coordinated support.
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant case recording in line with legislation and Barnet Council policies.
Contribute to reflective supervision, peer learning, and service development.
About You
You are a confident and resilient social worker with significant post-qualification experience in children’s services. You are able to manage complex cases, support colleagues, and ensure that children’s voices remain central to decision-making.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Extensive post-qualification experience within Children’s Services.
Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
Experience of mentoring, coaching, or supporting colleagues.
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice.
Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
