Senior Social Worker – Children with Disabilities (London Borough of Havering)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Senior Social Worker (Qualified Social Worker – QSW)** to join the **Children with Disabilities Team at the London Borough of Havering**. This role focuses on supporting children and young people with disabilities, managing complex safeguarding cases, and providing mentoring and guidance to colleagues to ensure the highest standards of social work practice.
As a Senior Social Worker, you will take responsibility for challenging casework, support less experienced staff, and work closely with children, families, and partner agencies to ensure services are effective, safe, and responsive to the needs of children with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on complex safeguarding and child protection cases involving children with disabilities.
Undertake statutory assessments to identify risks, strengths, and needs of children and their families.
Develop, implement, and review personalised care and support plans tailored to individual needs.
Provide mentoring, coaching, and professional guidance to newly qualified and junior social workers.
Prepare and present clear, evidence-based reports for statutory reviews, child protection conferences, and court proceedings.
Work directly with children, young people, and families to build positive and trusting relationships.
Collaborate with schools, health professionals, voluntary organisations, and specialist disability services to deliver effective multi-agency support.
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant case recording in line with legislation and Havering Council policies.
Contribute to reflective supervision, peer learning, and continuous service improvement.
About You
You are a confident and resilient social worker with strong post-qualification experience, ideally within a disabilities service. You are skilled in handling complex safeguarding cases, mentoring colleagues, and ensuring children’s needs remain central to practice and decision-making.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Extensive post-qualification experience within Children’s Services, ideally with children with disabilities.
Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
Experience in mentoring, coaching, or supporting colleagues.
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice.
Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
