Assistant Team Manager – Safeguarding (London Borough of Havering)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Assistant Team Manager (Qualified Social Worker – QSW)** to join the **London Borough of Havering’s Safeguarding Children’s Services team**. This role focuses on supporting the Team Manager in overseeing safeguarding practice, supervising social workers, and ensuring that children and families receive safe, effective, and high-quality services.
As an Assistant Team Manager, you will provide day-to-day management support, hold a small complex caseload, and contribute to service improvement while promoting a child-centred approach across the team.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Team Manager in leading and supervising a team of social workers.
Provide reflective supervision, mentoring, and guidance to social workers and newly qualified staff.
Oversee complex safeguarding and child protection cases to ensure statutory duties are met.
Carry a small caseload of high-risk and complex cases where necessary.
Ensure assessments, care planning, and reviews are delivered to a high standard and within statutory timescales.
Prepare and present high-quality reports for child protection conferences, statutory reviews, and court proceedings.
Work collaboratively with children, families, and partner agencies including schools, health services, and police.
Contribute to audits, quality assurance processes, and continuous service improvement.
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant case recording in line with legislation and Havering Council policies.
About You
You are an experienced social worker with strong safeguarding knowledge and proven supervisory experience. You are confident in managing complex cases, supporting colleagues, and ensuring child-centred practice is delivered consistently.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Substantial post-qualification experience within Children’s Services.
Experience in safeguarding and child protection, with proven ability to manage complex cases.
Previous supervisory or management experience is desirable.
Strong knowledge of legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice in children’s social care.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
