Advanced Practitioner – Children’s Services (Barnet Council)
Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced **Advanced Practitioner (Qualified Social Worker – QSW)** to join the **Barnet Council Children’s Services team**. This role focuses on leading complex safeguarding work, supporting children and families, and providing professional leadership and mentoring to colleagues to ensure excellent social work practice.
As an Advanced Practitioner, you will take responsibility for high-risk cases, contribute to service development, and provide expertise to strengthen practice standards across the team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act to identify risks, strengths, and needs.
Develop, implement, and review child-focused care and protection plans.
Provide professional guidance, mentoring, and coaching to less experienced social workers.
Prepare and present evidence-based reports for child protection conferences, statutory reviews, and court proceedings.
Work directly with children, young people, and families to build positive and supportive relationships.
Collaborate with schools, health professionals, police, and voluntary organisations to deliver coordinated multi-agency support.
Ensure case records are accurate, timely, and compliant with legislation and Barnet Council policies.
Contribute to audits, quality assurance, and continuous service development.
About You
You are a confident and resilient social worker with significant post-qualification experience in children’s services. You are skilled in managing high-risk safeguarding cases, supporting colleagues, and ensuring children’s needs are at the centre of decision-making.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Extensive post-qualification experience within Children’s Services.
Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding and child protection cases.
Experience in mentoring, coaching, or supporting colleagues.
Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice.
Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
