Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist – Band 6
Brief Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Band 6 Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to join the Children’s Therapies Community Team at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, based at the Green Wrythe Lane Clinic in Carshalton.
This locum role focuses on supporting young children under five with communication and language needs within a community setting. The post offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where your clinical expertise will help children develop their communication potential and reach key developmental milestones.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist speech and language therapy assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children under five with communication and developmental difficulties.
- Deliver individual and group therapy sessions using evidence-based approaches tailored to each child’s needs.
- Work closely with parents, carers, and early years professionals to develop and implement therapy goals and strategies.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary assessments and care plans for children with complex needs.
- Offer training and advice to families and professionals to support speech and language development in home and educational settings.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC and Trust guidelines.
- Monitor and evaluate therapy outcomes, adapting interventions as appropriate.
- Promote early identification of communication needs and deliver preventative interventions where possible.
- Collaborate effectively with the wider community therapy and early years services to ensure joined-up care for children and families.

You are a dedicated and knowledgeable Speech and Language Therapist with strong experience working with young children. You are confident in assessing and treating a range of communication difficulties and enjoy working collaboratively with families, carers, and professionals. You are proactive, flexible, and committed to delivering high-quality, child-centred therapy that makes a lasting difference.
Requirements
- Qualified Speech and Language Therapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Experience working as a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist, specifically with children under five.
- Proficiency in using evidence-based therapy approaches and interventions appropriate to early years.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a caseload and prioritise effectively in a community setting.
- Excellent documentation and report-writing skills.
- Commitment to continued professional development and reflective practice.
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures and best practice in children’s services.
Contract & Salary
- Job Type: Locum
- Location: Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust – Community, Green Wrythe Lane Clinic, Carshalton
- Area: Surrey NHS
- Contract Length: 3rd – 14th November (subject to change)
- Salary: £Negotiable, dependent on experience
- Working Hours: 30 hours per week (7.5 hours per day, 30 minutes unpaid lunch)
- Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, community-based
