Social Worker – Children’s Services
Brief Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and committed Social Worker to join the Children’s Services Team at Lancashire County Council. This role is ideal for a qualified and registered social worker who is passionate about improving outcomes for children, young people, and their families.
As part of a supportive and dedicated team, you will work with children across a range of complex needs, undertaking assessments, developing care plans, and delivering interventions that promote safety, wellbeing, and positive change. This post is designated as an Essential Car User position, requiring flexibility to travel for visits and meetings across the county.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake assessments and interventions in line with the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation to ensure children’s needs are effectively met.
- Work directly with children and families to safeguard and promote welfare through Child in Need, Child Protection, and Looked After Children processes.
- Prepare and implement care and protection plans that deliver positive and sustainable outcomes for children and young people.
- Build strong relationships with children and families through direct work, ensuring their voices are central to all decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners including education, health, and police to deliver coordinated support and early interventions.
- Prepare clear, evidence-based reports and attend child protection conferences, court hearings, and reviews as required.
- Manage a varied caseload, maintaining timely and accurate case recording in line with council and legal requirements.
- Participate in regular supervision, reflective practice, and professional development to maintain high standards of care and compliance with statutory frameworks.

You are a qualified and registered social worker with experience in statutory children’s services. You bring empathy, resilience, and professionalism to your work, with a strong ability to assess, plan, and deliver effective interventions that make a lasting difference. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, value teamwork, and demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare.
Requirements
- Social Work qualification (Degree or equivalent).
- Registered with Social Work England.
- Proven experience working within Children’s Services in a local authority setting.
- Strong understanding of the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and associated legislation.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficient in assessment, care planning, and report writing.
- Ability to work effectively within multi-agency frameworks and manage complex caseloads.
- Essential Car User: Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
- Commitment to strengths-based, child-centred practice.
