Brief Job Overview
We are recruiting an experienced and passionate Social Worker to join the Children & Families Service at the London Borough of Hackney on a 3-month locum contract. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a diverse and progressive London borough, supporting children, young people, and families to achieve safety, stability, and long-term wellbeing.
You will play a vital role in undertaking high-quality assessments, developing care plans, and delivering interventions that make a meaningful difference to families’ lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake child and family assessments in line with statutory requirements and Hackney’s practice standards.
- Manage a caseload including Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Looked After Children (LAC) cases.
- Develop and implement outcome-focused plans that promote safety, resilience, and positive change.
- Work directly with children and families through visits, interventions, and multi-agency meetings to assess needs and deliver tailored support.
- Prepare analytical reports for child protection conferences, care reviews, and court proceedings.
- Collaborate with partner agencies such as education, health, and the police to ensure coordinated support for families.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children in accordance with the Children Act 1989 and local safeguarding procedures.
- Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and service development activities to enhance learning and quality of practice.

You are a dedicated and skilled social worker who is committed to supporting children and families through strengths-based, relationship-centred practice. You bring experience in statutory social work, excellent communication and assessment skills, and the ability to balance compassion with clear professional boundaries. Requirements
- Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
- At least two years’ post-qualified experience in children and families social care.
- Strong understanding of the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and related statutory frameworks.
- Experience managing CIN, CP, or LAC cases within a local authority setting.
- Excellent communication, assessment, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to team goals and multi-agency plans.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and reflective supervision.
