Occupational Therapist

Brief Job Overview / Introduction to Role

We are recruiting an Occupational Therapist to join Wigan Council’s Early Intervention Integrated Services in Greater Manchester. This locum position involves working with children and adults experiencing challenges with daily living activities and reduced independence. You will provide holistic, person-centred assessments and interventions, utilising reablement, assistive technology, equipment, and adaptations to support optimal health, wellbeing, and independence within the home and community.

Key Responsibilities

– Conduct specialist assessments, treatment, and management for adults with physical, learning, or mental health needs affecting their ability to manage at home. – Assess and respond to paediatric cases, providing intervention for babies, children, and adolescents with complex physical, developmental, or learning needs. – Deliver a range of solutions to support independence, including reablement programmes, assistive technology, small equipment, minor adaptations, and major adaptations where appropriate. – Work in conjunction with Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapists and other specialists as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop integrated service approaches. – Formulate and implement intervention plans for complex cases aimed at reducing the impact of disability and increasing independence in the home. – Ensure adaptations and interventions align with individual care plans, promoting compensatory strategies where further rehabilitation is not possible. – Collaborate closely with colleagues across health and social care, including public health, community and acute health services, and housing, to deliver integrated, person-centred services. – Promote and embed an asset-based, personalised approach in all service delivery, supporting adults, children, families, and carers to optimise engagement and outcomes.

About You

You are a qualified Occupational Therapist with experience working in both adult and paediatric services. You have a strong understanding of reablement, equipment, and adaptations, and can provide person-centred, evidence-based interventions. You are confident working independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Requirements

– Recognised Occupational Therapy qualification. – Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). – Experience in early intervention, reablement, or integrated occupational therapy services. – Knowledge of equipment provision, assistive technology, and home adaptations. – Experience working with both adults and children with complex needs. – Strong multi-agency collaboration and communication skills. – Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload across the community and home environments.
