About the Role
Royal Shrewsbury Hospital is seeking an experienced Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the MERRIT inpatient team, covering medicine, endocrine, respiratory and renal specialties. This is a fully on-site role for a 6-month period, managing a complex caseload and supporting patient flow through timely assessment, treatment and discharge planning.
Main Responsibilities
- Independently assess, diagnose, interpret and manage a specialist caseload of complex inpatients, working in accordance with HCPC regulations and professional codes of conduct.
- Apply specialist knowledge and skills gained through relevant experience and postgraduate training.
- Work collaboratively with clinical colleagues across all Care Groups to deliver a cohesive, patient-centred service that supports high standards of care and safe, timely discharge.
- Support team leads and senior therapists in providing structured training, supervision and appraisal for staff.
- Contribute to the delivery of an efficient, responsive Therapy Centre service.
- Act as a source of specialist advice within the Therapy Centre, throughout the Trust and wider health economy.
- Use highly effective communication skills when working with patients, carers, MDT colleagues and partner services.
- Participate in audit activity to contribute to service improvement and quality assurance.
- Work flexibly across Therapy Centre cover arrangements, remaining adaptable to changes in clinical allocation when required.
- Demonstrate and promote Trust values in all clinical and professional interactions.
Requirements
- HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist.
- Significant post-qualification experience, ideally within acute inpatient settings.
- Specialist skills across medical, respiratory, endocrine or renal pathways.
- Strong MDT collaboration, communication and clinical reasoning skills.
- Ability to manage a complex caseload autonomously.
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:30.
- Weekday cover only – no weekend working.
- Fully on-site role; no remote working available.
