Experienced Social Worker – Children’s Services (Bedford Borough Council)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an **Experienced Social Worker (Qualified Social Worker)** to join **Bedford Borough Council’s Children’s Services team**. This role focuses on safeguarding children, supporting families, and delivering high-quality interventions that improve outcomes for children and young people.

You will hold a complex caseload, undertake statutory assessments, and work with families and professionals to ensure children are safe, supported, and achieving positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Undertake safeguarding and child protection assessments in line with statutory requirements.

Develop, implement, and review child-focused care and support plans.

Manage complex caseloads with effective risk assessment and timely interventions.

Prepare clear, evidence-based reports for court, case conferences, and statutory reviews.

Work collaboratively with health, education, police, and voluntary sector partners to deliver joined-up support.

Ensure the child’s voice is central to all planning, assessments, and decision-making.

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in line with council policies and legislation.

Contribute to reflective supervision, peer discussions, and service improvement initiatives.

About You

You are a resilient and motivated social worker with experience in safeguarding and child protection. You are confident in managing complex cases and committed to achieving safe, positive, and sustainable outcomes for children and families.

Requirements

Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.

Post-qualification experience within statutory Children’s Services, including safeguarding and child protection.

Strong knowledge of child development, family dynamics, and relevant legislation (Children Act 1989/2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children).

Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.

Ability to manage competing demands while maintaining a child-focused approach.
