Deputy Team Manager – Adults (Locum)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced Deputy Team Manager to join Bolton Council’s Community Learning Disability Team within the North West Social Services area. This locum role involves providing operational and professional leadership within adult social care, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred services for adults with learning disabilities. You will support the Team Manager in supervising staff, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with statutory duties and departmental standards while promoting positive outcomes for individuals, families, and carers.

Key Responsibilities

     

  • Deputise for the Team Manager as required, ensuring continuity of leadership and service delivery.
     

  • Provide professional guidance, supervision, and performance management to staff within the team.
     

  • Assist in managing organisational, professional, and individual risks in line with safeguarding principles and best practice.
     

  • Contribute to effective decision-making regarding referrals, caseload allocation, and prioritisation of work.
     

  • Support the management and control of budgets and resources to ensure cost-effective and efficient service delivery.
     

  • Promote high standards of professional practice, ensuring adherence to national frameworks and local policies.
     

  • Lead and participate in quality assurance initiatives, performance monitoring, and service improvement processes.
     

  • Facilitate, chair, and contribute to meetings, including safeguarding investigations, complaint resolutions, and decision-making forums.
     

  • Promote staff development by identifying training needs and supporting ongoing professional growth.
     

  • Contribute to the recruitment, induction, and development of new staff members.
     

  • Assist senior management in implementing organisational change and delivering strategic objectives.
     

  • Ensure adults are kept safe and that safeguarding processes are consistently followed and monitored.

About You

You are a confident and capable leader with a strong background in adult social care, particularly in services supporting adults with learning disabilities. You’ll bring a combination of operational management experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate and guide a multidisciplinary team. Your commitment to promoting independence, safeguarding, and continuous improvement will enable you to make a meaningful impact within this vital community service.

Requirements

     

  • Social Work qualification (DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent) and registration with Social Work England.
     

  • Experience working with adults with learning disabilities within a statutory local authority setting.
     

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience within adult social care.
     

  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Care Act 2014 and Adult Safeguarding frameworks.
     

  • Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
     

  • Proven ability to manage performance, supervise staff, and oversee service delivery in line with quality standards.
     

  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and person-centred approaches to care.
