Practice Manager

 

Job Overview

The London Borough of Waltham Forest is recruiting an experienced Practice Manager to join its Mental Health and Wellness Team. This locum role offers the opportunity to lead and supervise a team of qualified social workers and support staff, ensuring high-quality, person-centred care for adults and older people across the borough.  

 

As Practice Manager, you will oversee service delivery, support complex casework, and act as Duty Lead when required. The role focuses on promoting independence, wellbeing, and recovery through effective social care practice that meets both statutory and professional standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

– Provide professional leadership, supervision, and management to social work and support staff within the Mental Health and Wellness Team.  

– Ensure that all social care practice is legally compliant, high quality, and person-centred.  

– Undertake and oversee complex assessments, developing outcome-focused support plans for adults with mental health needs.  

– Triage and allocate work effectively, ensuring timely and appropriate responses to referrals.  

– Support and guide staff in managing complex casework and safeguarding concerns.  

– Represent the Council at multi-agency meetings, liaising with internal and external partners to coordinate care and interventions.  

– Promote culturally sensitive and inclusive practice that responds to the needs of a diverse community.  

– Manage and monitor performance standards, ensuring practice improvements and service quality.  

– Contribute to service development initiatives that enhance the delivery of mental health and wellbeing support.  

 

About You

You’ll be a confident and skilled social work professional with significant experience in mental health services and team supervision. You’ll combine strong leadership and decision-making skills with a compassionate, person-centred approach that prioritises the wellbeing and independence of service users.  

 

You’ll be comfortable working in complex and sometimes emotive circumstances, demonstrating resilience, professionalism, and excellent communication skills.  

 

Requirements

– Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England (essential)  

– Significant post-qualification expe
