Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and motivated Occupational Therapist to join the Adult Social Care Team in the West Midlands. This locum position involves working with adults to promote independence, wellbeing, and safety within their homes and communities through effective assessment and intervention.
You will be responsible for assessing functional needs, recommending aids, equipment, and adaptations, and supporting individuals to live safely and independently. The role focuses on delivering high-quality, person-centred care in line with the Care Act (2014) and local authority policies.
Key Responsibilities
– Undertake comprehensive functional assessments of adults with physical disabilities or health conditions.
– Recommend, plan, and prescribe major adaptations (e.g. bathroom conversions, access solutions, stairlifts).
– Advise on and arrange the provision of aids and equipment to support independence and reduce risk.
– Work collaboratively with contractors, housing teams, and other professionals to ensure effective delivery of adaptations.
– Maintain accurate and timely case records in accordance with professional and local authority standards.
– Support service users and carers to achieve their desired outcomes through strength-based, person-centred interventions.
– Promote safe moving and handling practices and provide expert advice as required.
About You
You’ll be a confident, autonomous practitioner with strong clinical reasoning and a practical understanding of aids, adaptations, and housing solutions. Your communication and problem-solving skills will enable you to work effectively with service users, families, and partner agencies.
Requirements
– Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent qualification)
– HCPC registration (essential)
– Proven experience within Adult Social Care settings
– Demonstrable experience of major adaptations and equipment provision
– Knowledge of the Care Act (2014) and related legislation
– Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential)
– Strong communication, organisational, and time management skills
Contract & Salary
– Contract type: Locum
– Contract length: Ongoing
– Working hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (09:00 – 17:00)
– Area: West Midlands Social Services
– Salary: Negotiable
